If we were all truthful we'd admit that each of us can stand to improve on the quality of our lives. For some of us this is as simple as getting a better job, loosing those last 10-15 pounds of body fat, or choosing a husband or wife. As it relates to personal fitness and overall wellness this principle, however, continues to ellude the masses. Our self-indulgent lifestyles have caused many of us to grow fat, lazy and so out of shape that taking a simple walk in the park with our children seems like and unphathomable task. At the core of this perplexing problem exists the futility of the human mind. Our lives are truly the bi-product of what and how we think. Therefore in order to change our lives we must first seek to change our minds. As a personal trainer I see this phenomena happen quite regularly. So many of my clients come into my the gym suffering from obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and other "dis-eases" looking for a miracle in a bottle or some sort of overnight potion to make all of their woes go away. However, when we begin to talk about the lifestyle changes that need to be implemented many shy away and fail to make the commitment necessary for true change to come about. For many of them they just quit before reaching the finish line and resort back to a lifestyle of chaos. We have become so programmed and acclimated to the things that keep in us in bondage that when true deliverance comes we shy away from it because it places us outside of our comfort zone. In short, we all want miracles but very few are willing to do what it takes for the miracle to manifest. Don't be mocked, weight loss is not an easy thing to accomplish especially for those who have more than 30 or more pounds to loose. However, it is very much within the realm of possibility for an individual who has the right mind set. Maintaining a positive and optimistic outlook especially in the face of seemingly difficult circumstances offers us an unfair advantage over others who are pessimistic. Fact is, thoughts are things! Our thoughts are the breeding grounds for our words which in turn give rise to the reality which we refer to as our lives. Our thoughts can either be the sixth man or the third leg. Either they can propel us forward or they can hold us back. Do you believe for a moment that in the mind of Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, there was ever any doubt about the fact that he had a chance of winning the 100m race at the Olympics? Or even that he could run at world record speed? Or do you believe that his mind set on the morning that he ran a 9.58 in the 100 meters was "Oh I guess I'll go out and try to run fast today"? I would venture to say absolutely not. I've never met the man, but I can almost guarantee that he was focused and he believed in his own mind that he could possibly be the fastest man not only in that race but in any race for that matter. His mind set allowed for his victory to manifest in a way that he had previously believed was possible. Usain Bolt, rightly named, is the perfect example of the principle "As a man thinks, so is he." Likewise, when an individual begins a weight loss journey he or she must be convinced that weight loss is more than possible; it is inevitable. This kind of radical thinking sets the stage and creates the platform for your weight loss journey to begin. Your thoughts will keep you when the struggle gets hard and they will motivate you to go the extra mile whether there's a trainer around to push you or not. Moreover, your new found positive thinking will cause you to speak in more a positive light about your situation which opens the door to success. The Bible teaches that when we declare a thing that it is established. Therefore when we speak we should only be declaring the things that we desire to see come to pass and not rehearsing the problems that are apparent to our eyesight. Try fueling your workouts with a pre-workout positive thinking session and follow up with making positive affirmations about yourself, your current circumstance and your future. I guarantee that if you do it, your training session will go so much smoother and you will be more productive. The higher you productivity, the faster you'll be able to see the results that you desire. You have got to find a way to visualize your success, declare it in faith, apply yourself to the process and reap the rewards of your work. Why don't you give it try? Allow your mind to move the matter that stands in the way of weight loss success. Having the right mind set truly sets the stage for you to think yourself thin. |
